The Miracle Sin by Marcus Hawke

The Miracle Sin is Marcus's debut novel and I am thankful to have received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. I'm going to do my best to keep it spoiler free as always and not give anything away so that you can enjoy your first read of it as much as I did.

At the start of this novel I wasn't really sure what direction it was going in but I was immediately fond of the main character Mason and his cat Bossy, as well as the little old lady they live with. As the story progressed my fondness for Mason grew and I was really pleased that he became more fleshed out and we really got to see him develop. I feel that a lot of the authors wit came across in Mason lending him his sometimes humorous manner.

I really like Hawkes writing style, I found it informal yet it still carried enough gravity to make the story creepy and gave the right amount of respect to all the paranormal beings involved. I'm not much of a horror reader, I am a complete wimp, however I did enjoy the spooky aura of this novel and feel that whether you usually read scary books or not it's at the right level for everyone to enjoy without being boring.

The plot went in a totally unexpected direction for me and definitely managed to keep me hooked, Hawke does a really good job of working in a number of different factors which are key to the plot without making it to much like an info dump which is something I really appreciate in a novel.
