Blurb
As the light returns, darkness will fall...
Spring is coming to the Northlands, but even as winter
fades, an icy terror spreads. The three Worlds
are on the brink of collapse, and ancient monsters rise from
the earth, their wicked eyes set firmly
on the mages.
Tuomas, still reeling from his defiance of the Great Bear
Spirit, must finally face the reality of who he
is. Mihka is furious with him, Elin refuses to speak to him,
and the people do not trust him. As the
villagers drive the reindeer back into the south to safety,
he must set out with Lumi one final time to
right his wrongs and keep the Worlds from falling apart.
But this quest shall bring the greatest test of all, for it
will take him into the Deathlands: a place
where no living person has ever stood...
My Review
I’ve always been a lover of mythology and this series has been
able to introduce me to myths and legends I probably never would have encountered
before. As with the previous novels Tuomas is our main character and has some
things which he must set right with the help of his friends.
This is an epic journey for him and we begin to see aspects of
his personality which we perhaps didn’t have as much of a chance to analyse
before as well as how his bond with the other characters has changed from the beginning
of the series. I feel that all of the characters we met in the first novel have
underwent some brilliant development and personal growth despite their
hardships and I can’t help but feel a bit emotionally attached to them all!
As you all know by now I hate giving away spoilers,
something which is pretty hard when reviewing a trilogy one after the other but
I will say I really enjoyed how the story ended. Everything was wrapped up
nicely, but not too neatly, giving a bit of realism to this fantasy tale.
Overall I really rate this series and would recommend it to
anyone who loves fantasy whether they be a YA reader or older. There is
something for everyone whether it be the breath-taking landscapes, ancient
legends coming to life, deep character connections or just brilliant story
telling. The Night River releases on the 19th December 2020 so you
still have time to snatch up and read the first two books before it comes out.
Beginning December 19th (and including pre-orders of The
Night River) 10% of royalties from the sale of each book in the Foxfires Trilogy
will be donated to Adopt a Reindeer Foundation, to support the indigenous
Arctic Sami people and help their traditional way of life to thrive.
The author Emma also has some wonderful events planned around
the release date so be sure to check out her website for updates http://echibbs.weebly.com/.
