The Earth-Treader by Alissa J Zavalianos

I'm very happy to have finally made the time to read this fantasy novel and it definitely didn't disappoint. One of the first events to happen in the novel is us being introduced to our main heroine Rylla, who lives with her mother and father in a small village in the region of Aylati.

Rylla is the only child still living at home as her two older brothers left an unstated number of years ago to fight in a war elsewhere in the Earthen-Crest kingdoms and have never returned. The mystery surrounding the two older siblings weighs heavily on Ryllas family but this is mostly forgotten as today is her birthday! Rylla takes the extra time she has this day to walk to one of her favourite childhood haunts, a hidden grove in the forest just outside her family's village.

While visiting the grove Rylla comes to acknowledge a part of herself which has been hidden most of her life and is given a life changing quest which only she can complete. This is a brilliant fantasy novel and I enjoyed how the story is told from Ryllas point of view as well as those of the supporting characters and enemies she meets along the way. Everything was very easy to follow and was kept clear despite all the different regions and characters who are introduced throughout.

There was a nice amount of character development both for Rylla and the supporting characters which in conjunction with the interesting story and good flow made it overall a very enjoyable read.
